Sex and Power : What about Bush and Clinton?
Lee Byung-Wook

Abstract
George W. Bush is the 43rd president of the United States, and Bill Clinton was the 42nd president. But President Bush is now criticized for his abuse of power, and President Clinton was criticized over a sex scandal. Freud stressed the harmony of love and work as a proviso for a healthy mental life, and the interrelation between sex and power is very suggestive. This paper focuses on the motivation of unusual behavioral patterns, and explores the hunger for affection and compensatory struggle for power. Bush and Clinton had very unhappy childhoods. Bush was raised in a family of cold, indifferent parents. Clinton grew up without his biological father, and he had to adapt to the repeated marriages of his mother. Bush has tried to rally from his own chronic inferiority and hunger for affection with power struggle and the use of force. Clinton failed to have an optimal identification source owing to the absence of his father, and then showed an endless sexual pursuit for the gratification of his own infantile wishes. Sex and power are very important driving forces in our lives, but when they are abused psychological equilibrium easily breaks down, giving rise to personal or collective crisis. We can not live only with love. We know that the hidden hate inside us is no less critical than our seeming love. Whenever we come in contact with the hate and rage around us, we feel deeply that love and hate should be integrated and work and love harmonized.
